Madeleine Davies of Jezebel.com is reporting Charnesia Corley, a 21-year-old black woman from Houston, Texas, was pulled over by a police officer in June and vaginally searched because the officer claimed he smelled marijuana in her car. Davies writes:
“The deputy claimed he smelled marijuana on Corley, and subsequently cuffed her and put her in the back of his patrol car while he searched her vehicle. Finding nothing, the deputy called a female officer to the scene to perform a vaginal search. Yes, a vaginal search. All because he suspected she had weed. According to Corley, the female officer, upon her arrival, ‘tells me to pull my pants down, I said, ‘Ma’am, I don’t have any underwear on.’ She says, ‘Well, that doesn’t matter. Pull your pants down.’”
Corley was then forced to submit to the vaginal search, although she told the female police officer that she could not perform the search. Corley, who was handcuffed, was forcibly thrown to the ground, while another female officer was called in to help hold her legs open to conduct the search, after she resisted.
Corley was booked for resisting arrest and possession of marijuana. The male police officer maintains that she consented to the search.
Color us crazy but if you smell marijuana in a car, then shouldn’t you search the car? And you thought Crash was a movie?
