The blogosphere is in a tizzy over the early release of convicted killer Oscar Pistorius, the Paralympic gold medalist who admitted to killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, 29 in February 2013. Pistorius, who was sentenced to 5 years in prison on the charge and conviction of culpable homicide, stated that he shot her four times through a locked bathroom door because he believed she was an intruder. Neighbors testified that they could hear Steenkamp’s “blood curdling” screams on the night of her death. Pistorius, who had been involved in prior domestic violence incidents, was taken into custody and charged with her death.
In the wake of the announcement that Pistorius will be freed after serving just 10 months of a five-year sentence, South African state prosecutors filed an appeal on Monday against the verdict of culpable homicide passed on Oscar Pistorius, arguing the athlete should have been convicted of murder.
Pistorius is being freed under South African’s guidelines for “non-dangerous” offenders.
Now, how did authorities come to the conclusion that Oscar Pistorius is not dangerous?
