Caribbean 360 is reporting a Jamaican woman, her Italian husband and their 9-year-old daughter were among the victims of a bridge collapse in Genoa last week. The bodies of Dawna Munroe, Cristian Cecal and their daughter Crystal were found in their car which was amongst the rubble from the bridge collapse on a main highway that joined Italy and France. Cars plunged 50 meters to the ground. The discovery of their bodies increased the death toll to 43.
Loop Jamaica is reporting the family was en route to Livorno to take the ferry to Elba island, where they planned on vacationing when the motorway collapsed. Munroe and her family were buried under concrete for three days.
Born in Sheffield, Westmoreland, Munroe and her daughter, then seven months old, moved to Italy in 2009. She met her husband while working in Negril.
Faulty infrastructure is being blamed for the collapse. Loop Jamaica is reporting officials knew of issues with the bridge since February of 2018.
