Ed White of The Huffington Post is reporting that Theodore Wafer, the man convicted of shooting unarmed teen Renisha McBride in the face through a locked door, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison. White writes:
“‘Theodore Wafer was convicted of second-degree murder in the Nov. 2 death of Renisha McBride, 19. Before getting his sentence, the Dearborn Heights man apologized to McBride’s family, saying he killed a woman who was ‘too young to leave this world.’
‘I will carry that guilt and sorrow forever,’ said Wafer, often pausing to control his emotions.”
Wafer, who never denied shooting McBride, said he shot the girl because he feared for his life. Defense attorneys argued for a sentence of no more than six years.
It is alleged that McBride was seeking help from Wafer after surviving a car crash near his home.
